Prowl - Pencils

Description

This is actually a Transformer. Prowl, from the "Transformers Animated" series.

Prowl was my very first Transformer, and I've had a fondness for the character ever since. (I actually never owned an Optimus Prime, though I had several other Transformers.) The original was a Police Car, and I felt slightly cheated when they said they were going to feature Prowl in the movie, and then featured an Evil Police Car, instead (that wasn't Prowl). This is kind of like the same feeling of expecting a Stegosaurus in "Jurassic Park", but getting a Triceratops, instead. Not my favorite, but...meh...it'll do. Probably will get Prowl in the sequel, just like I got Stegosaurus in "The Lost World".

I haven't seen much of the series except for the first Wreck-Gar episode. I dig the style of it, and when a cheap book, "How to Draw Transformers Animated" floated in front of my face, I figured what the heck.

The cons with the book:
1) Even though it's a coloring-book sized piece of literature, the guides are way too small for any detail.
2) Everyone's pretty much in stock pose.
3) The guidelines are done in light blue. The previous ones are done in black. Should have been the other way around, don't you think? Makes it impossible to follow the step-by-step process when you can't see what you should be drawing next! You might as well look at the final project, cross your fingers (and your eyes--did I mention the size?), and wish for the best.
4) Granted, this is supposed to be a book for 5-10 year olds, and hardly one that someone my age needs to buy... but...you ever remember how when you were a kid and you tried to draw comic book characters and cartoons, and you were so upset when they didn't look exactly the same? This book is a traumatic experience waiting to happen...
5) No Wreck-Gar. What the hell. (Next to Prowl, Wreck-Gar would be my favorite. I would totally buy that Wreck-Gar toy if I could find it...)

The pros:
1) Well it is Transformers.
2) Transformers Animated, at that.
3) The stock-photos are pretty cool, anyway. Bigger than the sticker-book I saw (also for kids) in which the characters were MINUSCULE.

I'd always just trace the final picture in those "How to draw..." books. Also, I'm still annoyed at them turning Bumblebee into a Camaro.
